modern era Sariah Collins

FULL NAME: Sariah Jezebel Collins
NICKNAMES/ALIASES: Jezebel Capper
AGE/DATE OF BIRTH: early 20s/August 30
GENDER: female
SEXUALITY: Essentially straight, although she doesn't gag at the thought of being with a woman. You need a little flexibility in her profession.
MARITAL/RELATIONSHIP STATUS: single and loving it
CAREER/OCCUPATION: Sariah is an escort. You pay her for her time, often (but not always) to be your date to an event, not to have sex with her. If sex happens, well, that's just two consenting adults. (Of course, everyone involved knows she's being paid for sex, but that's illegal in the state of New York; escorting is not. Once sex has happened, she can't accept anything more than cab fare.) If you have to ask how much an evening costs, you can't afford it, and while she has a website, she works by referral only and the website is generally just a convenient way to stay in touch with her regulars.
CURRENT RESIDENCE: A nice apartment on the Upper East Side where her brother is crashing more often than not. Also occasionally spends the night at her parents' house, and her horse, Dancer, is boarded at a stable just north of the city (Sariah is stupid in love with this horse and tries to ride at least twice a week).

PB: Troian Avery Bellisario
Sariah is tallish, around 5'8, and slender, courtesy of ballet and horseback riding. She has skin that would be olive if she spent more time in the sun, brown eyes, and long dark hair. She tends to dress very well, in expensive and stylish clothing that's just a little bit sexy. "Sexy enough that they remember you're a woman, but not so revealing they forget you're a lady." Jeans are a rarity. She will also never be seen without her hair and makeup done, careful to always look her best. She carries herself with an easy grace and confidence.

Personality: Sariah is rather the quiet type. She prefers to listen more than she speaks, and is sometimes considered mysterious for this. She can certainly be the outgoing social butterfly when necessary (and indeed, she has one client who hires her specifically for this purpose, as a buffer for his crippling social anxiety), and she has enough of a presence that you can never forget she's there, but she is more of an introvert than not and especially in her personal life, prefers to have a few close friends than shallow relationships with everyone at the party.

Sariah likes to think she has a good heart, but she knows she can be a judgmental bitch at times. She was raised to snobbery, and she'll giggle behind her hand to her friends about a terrible outfit with the best of them. At the same time, this serves her. It keeps her confident and with a good head on her shoulders -- she needs a head for business and the ability to separate emotions and the confidence to lay down the law when she has to. She doesn't have a big problem with guys causing problems; the referral-only system is a pretty solid line of defense against that, but it's still good to be able to defuse or get out of a bad situation.

Sariah tends to do the nice!bitch thing, all things being equal. She'll rarely be openly bitchy to someone's face, but she'll be sweet and utterly passive-aggressive, then talk behind their backs. That's the kind of aggression she grew up with, and it's what comes naturally to her. On the one hand, she'll use what social standing she has among the high-class to damage someone she wants to damage, but at the same time, getting away from that was a big reason for her choice of profession.

History.

Sariah was born to an affluent, high-society family in Westchester County. Since she was old enough to walk and talk, Sariah knew about being a lady and the obligations to her community that being a Collins implied. She was pushed to be graceful and ladylike and polite in everything she did, and introduced to ladylike pursuits like horseback riding and ballet. That was fine, because Sariah was clearly a very shy child, always preferring to stay inside with a book than go out where there was mud and things that poked and stung. The only time she preferred to be outside was on a horse, and the first time Sariah saw her own horse, Dancer, she fell completely in love.

She had an older brother whom she was always close to, and they've both heard no end of stories about how when she was an infant, he would make up elaborate stories of what her little noises meant, determined to communicate to the world for her. Sariah was terrified to start school (of course a private elementary school), but she was in the same school as Mosiah, and he was able to help her out of her shell a little, showing her that contrary to what they were being raised to, it would be okay and everyone would survive if she said one wrong thing occasionally.

By the time Sariah was in high school, she had a small circle of friends whom she was close to and could confide in. She was realizing slowly that the Daughters of the American Revolution and the various Women's Auxiliaries were not for her. She didn't say anything to her parents, but confided in her older brother. He tried to help her come up with ideas, throwing out random professions and pursuits. He suggested hooking as a joke, and she went silent.

"Sariah, no."
"Oh hell yes."

Sariah got a job waitressing at a strip club when she was sixteen, using fake papers and getting her brother to help her lie about it. She used this to form contacts and get used to the more lascivious side of male nature. When she was eighteen, she felt ready to enter her profession, but not as a common whore -- she was a high class lady of good breeding, excellent education, and expensive tastes. Who better to cater to the rich, powerful, and well-bred themselves? Having saved herself for this gambit, Sariah sold her virginity, and was fortunate enough for it to be an okay experience. It was a little awkward and a little uncomfortable and not quite what she expected, but the older man who had paid her price was respectful and a gentleman.

It's pretty much been smooth sailing from there. Sariah takes a class or two every semester at NYU to justify her living in the city to her parents, with a declared major of art. Her brother, despite his initial balk, is absurdly proud of her, and often uses his contacts in the city symphony to find her new clients.
